Saxbys Temple University – Liacouras Walk

Coffee Cafe

This renovation took an original Saxbys location and elevated it through a simple, thoughtful design approach to expand the space by exposing its structure.

Removing studs and drywall from the original location stretched the interior space available in this tiny coffee café. The counter location was left in place; then it was reorganized and restyled. A completely new seating concept was created to densify the space. Colors, textures and furnishings are all selected to create the sense of lightness in the small space with only 2 windows.

Re-worked HVAC distribution allowed for lay-in ceiling removal and the installation of a custom wood ceiling element. The ceiling element – and corresponding floor pattern – are inspired by a new central green under construction; its a stylized walking path through a typical university green. Light, loose furnishings and a student artwork program complete the stylized cafe.
